Bio

I went to my first squat party in 97, my girlfriend at the time took me, and it was in Hackney wick. We squeezed in past the vans parked in the gateway and into a huge yard, there was a fire burning in the middle with people all around she grabbed my hand and took me into the warehouse, Gizelle was on the decks and the place was rammed full. Later on we explored the building and it seemed that every other room had a sound system in it, people were dancing or doing what the hell they wanted, I remember thinking I have never felt this kind of atmosphere before and that was it, I was hooked. Since then I’ve been to parties in the most amazing places, big, small, hot and cold, warehouses, arches, cinemas, bingo halls, underground car parks, factories, show rooms, pubs I even played in a walk in refrigerator once! Sometimes when I’m on the bus I sit there looking out the window making a mental note of buildings that we’ve partied and what they are now. I say we’ve partied, I started playing at the parties in 2002, my Spanish friends got so fed up listening to my insecurities about being a dj that they marched me round London with my records one Saturday night to get me a play. We tried a few places but ended up in a railway arch a few hundred yards away from Liverpool Street Station. It was a big party and I was trapped, I couldn’t go back my Spanish friends were blocking the door and the only way forward was through the crowd and up to the decks. I did it, asked for a play and they put my records in the queue. When it was my turn the guy that owned the sound system said “If you’re good you can stay on, if your crap you’re off”. I played my heart out for three hours, people were shouting, screaming, whistling and dancing, they passed me spliffs and beer shook my hand and watched me mix, the input of the crowd took me up to another level and I did it, I rang that old railway arch like a bell.
So that’s how I met Stinky Pink, two weeks later and in the railway arch next door I met The Malfaiteurs and this is my life now, on Saturday night I wait for a party, if there isn’t one on then I try on Sunday. I lift speaker boxes, work the bar or dj; I am a small part of something that has given me real purpose. I’ve met a lot of people and I’ve played in some great venues and I fucking love it!
